It feels like not a week goes by without a news story about some horrific act of gun violence. It’s happening all over the world. And I don’t know if it’s because we have access to news twenty-four hours a day that it feels like it’s happening more and more often, or if, sadly, it really is happening more and more often.
And on that related note, one of my personal essays was recently published at MUTHA Magazine and then re-printed at the Huffington Post. Click here to read “Why Our Family Doesn’t Allow Toy Guns.”

Good evening, Ms.Kennar! I hope you remember me from your fourth grade class.
I have read some of your article, and I love them all, especially how they involve your family. I didn’t hear many personal stories in your class, or maybe I simply didn’t understand them; reading stories about your son and husband and your opinion on events/issues were indeed interesting!
I can’t wait to read your next article!:)
Emiru, Of course I remember you! I remember your neat work and your strong work ethic! How wonderful to hear from you! Thank you for reading!
